Sunny Singh Kular Family Honored as Asian Model Family
CHICAGO: Sunny
Singh Kular and Family were the recipients of the Asian
Model Family 2005 Awards on November 20, 2005 at the Holiday
Inn in Skokie, Illinois. The awards were given by Asian
Chronicle USA a television program on public access cable,
produced at COMCAST Studios in Skokie, Illinois.
Mr. & Mrs. Sunny Singh Kular
and family Rimpy (wife), Esha (daughter), Purneet (son) were
the recipients of Asian model Family award 2005 in the Asian
Indian category.
The Model Families were chosen on the basis of their being
cohesive families, role models for others to emulate,
extended numerous community services here and in their
native countries and have impacted the positive image of
Asians in America.
The Kular family was cited as having a long list of
community service, and have kept the children and the Kular
family involved in all the cultural, social, and religious
activities together.
Mr. Kular, a post graduate in
Telecommunications from DePaul and a graduate from
University of Illinois at Chicago, is an experienced
engineering professional. Currently, he is a Software
engineer with British Petroleum in Chicago.
Sunny Singh Kular immigrated to
Chicago, USA in 1989 from Ludhiana, Punjab, India. He got
married to Rimpy in 1996. Dr. Rimpy Kular works in the
Neurology Department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital,
Chicago. She is an active member of American India Medical
Association of Chicago.
Mr. Kular, the co-founding member the past president and the Board
of Governor of Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (PCS) www.PCSChicago.org , has served PCS in many capacities since its inception.
He is an active member of Sikh American Heritage Organization
www.SikhAmerican.org Mr. Kular was the Co-Chairman of the
Entertainment Committee of Asian American Coalition of
Chicago's Annual Dinner Banquets in 2003.
Sunny was awarded for outstanding service as PCS President
2002-2003.
He was also honored by
the Asian American Coalition of Chicago with a community
service award in 2005.
A well known Punjabi performing artist, Mr. Kular also
coordinates Punjabi folk dance "Bhangra" to the children. He
has organized various Punjabi Cultural, Sikh American and
Asian American mainstream events in Chicago including 4th
of July parade, Vaisakhi Parade in Chicago, blood donation
drives, youth seminars, sports festivals, the Chicago
Millennium Park Opening day celebrations, the State Street
Thanksgiving Day Parade, and at White Sox Park Chicago to
name a few. He is also an active member of the “ Passport
to the World” Committee at the Chicago Children’s Museum
in Navy Pier.
For his achievements, Mr.
Sunny Singh Kular was also presented with “The President’s
Volunteer Service Award” by the President's council on
service and Civic Participation send from Washington D.C.
Sunny and Rimpy are
blessed with two beautiful children, Esha and Parneet.
Seven Year-old Esha is in second grade at Andrew Jackson
Language Academy. She is a very good dancer in addition to
Rangla Punjab she has also performed at Navy Pier’s Passport
to the World Celebrations. Esha speaks fluent Punjabi and
learning to read and write it as well. She is also studying
the Russian language at her school. Esha is not only
excelling in the academics but also has time to learn
languages and participate in activities that enhance her
native culture Esha’s younger brother Parneet is only
One-year-old.
Dr. Rimpy Kular is dedicated to both her family and her
profession. Being a doctor is a very challenging job, but
she is a very devoted mother to her children Esha and
Parneet. Rimpy’s good care of the kids gives Sunny time for
all his community involvement.
In as much as the
Kulars are deeply connected to their Indian roots they have
adapted well to the American lifestyle and culture. Keeping
the Indian family tradition alive, the Kular family travels
back home to India quite frequently, in order to acquaint
their children with the life in their native country. The
Kular family young as it may be is indeed a model Indian
family.
They maintain their rich Indian heritage, while they are very
proud to be American.
