PALATINE, IL: The Palatine village council voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Mohinderjit Singh Saini as a Regular Member of the Palatine Zoning Board of Appeals to fill a five year term. Mayor of Palatine Ms. Rita Mullins proposed Mr. Saini's name proclaiming that he was an extremely qualified candidate because of his education, professional background, past experience with the village activities, and community service record in Palatine.

Zoning board of appeals is an advisory body for the hearing of special use and variation petitions. Under state law it acts as the public hearing body for the Village Council. Members listen to the public, the petitioner, and Village staff and makes decision in accordance with the village code, ordinances and standards for residential, commercial or industrial zones. 

Mr. Saini, a post graduate in civil engineering from University of Illinois at Chicago and a graduate from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, Punjab, India, is an experienced construction engineering professional. He was the chairman of Ethnic & Cultural Diversity Committee of "Vision in Progress" a village of Palatine and Inverness initiative. He served on the committee to organize Palatine's Quasqui-centennial (125th. year) celebration activities in 1991.

He serves on the Asian American Advisory Council to the State of Illinois Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, and is the "Passport to the World - Ambassador" of Chicago Children's Museum. Mr. Saini was the Program Chairman of the 20th and 12th Annual Asian American Coalition of Chicago's Dinner Banquets in 2003 and 1995. He was honored by the Asian American Coalition of Chicago with a community service award in 1992.

Mr. Saini, is the past president and has served Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago www.PCSChicago.org in many capacities since its inception. He is also the past executive secretary, finance secretary and social secretary of Sikh Religious Society of Chicago which operates a Sikh Gurdwara (place of worship) in Palatine.  He is an active member of Sikh American Heritage Organization www.SikhAmerican.org .

Mr. Saini headed the committee to publish Punjabi community resource directory "Punjabi Pages" in 1999 and 2001. He was honored with community service award by Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago in 1997 and "Chitrahar TV" in 2001. A known  performing artist, Mr. Saini also teaches Punjabi folk dance "Bhangra" to the next generation. He has organized various Punjabi Cultural, Sikh American and Asian American mainstream events in Chicago for the last 17 years.

Currently, Mr. Saini is a construction consulting engineer with Teng and Associates, Inc. of Chicago at LaGrange Rd. reconstruction project.

The Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago is a not-for-profit community organization devoted to promoting Punjabi culture, language, performing arts , healthy life style and sports in the metropolitan Chicago area.
