Recognition Dinner

Mr. Mohinderjit Singh Saini and other members of the Zoning Board of Appeals recognized by the Mayor and Council of the Village of Palatine at Volunteers Recognition Dinner held on November 5, 2003 at Cotillion Banquet Hall.

Mohinderjit Singh Saini honored by Village of Palatine Council and the Office of the Illinois Governor:

At a special Volunteers Recognition Dinner held on November 5, 2003 at Cotillion Banquet Hall Mr. Mohinderjit Singh Saini, member Zoning Board of Appeals was honored by the Mayor and Council of the Village of Palatine, IL.

The Village of Palatine council honored the individuals who made a difference in the community, and welcomed newly appointed members of the various Boards and commissions.

“Mr. Mohinderjit S. Saini has the longest resume of community service that I have come across in the Village of Palatine,” said Ms. Susan Tibbitts, Chairperson Zoning Board of Appeals.

“Mr. Saini is an extremely qualified member for Zoning Board of Appeals because of his education, professional background, past experience with the village activities, and community service record in Palatine, said Ms. Rita Mullins, mayor of Palatine, IL.

“Mr. Saini’s service to the community is beyond limits, his hardwork and dedication in representing the community is extraordinary,” said Mr. Thakar S. Basati, a resident of Palatine and ex-President of Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago.

“We want representatives like Mr. Saini whose dedication and commitment to serve the mainstream community has made us proud,” said Mr. Harjinder Singh Sandhu, a businessman from Palatine.

“I thank the village of Palatine for giving me the opportunity to serve the mainstream community and I appreciate this honor,” said Mr. Saini, member Zoning Board of Appeals.

On behalf of the people of the State of Illinois, the office of the Governor also presented Certificate of Appreciation to Mr. Mohinderjit Singh Saini for his outstanding contributions to the community.

Mr. Saini, a post graduate in civil engineering from University of Illinois at Chicago and a graduate from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, Punjab, India, is an experienced construction engineering professional. He was the chairman of Ethnic & Cultural Diversity Committee of "Vision in Progress" a village of Palatine and Inverness initiative. He served on the committee to organize Palatine's Quasqui-centennial (125th. year) celebration activities in 1991.

He serves on the Asian American Advisory Council to the State of Illinois Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka, and is the "Passport to the World - Ambassador” of Chicago Children's Museum. Mr. Saini was the Program Chairman of the 20th and 12th Annual Asian American Coalition of Chicago’s Dinner Banquets in 2003 and 1995. He was honored by the Asian American Coalition of Chicago with a community service award in 1992.

Mr. Saini, is currently the Managing Director, the past president, and has served Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago www.PCSChicago.org in many capacities since its inception. He is also the past executive secretary, finance secretary and social secretary of Sikh Religious Society of Chicago which operates a Sikh Gurdwara (place of worship) in Palatine.

He is an active member of Sikh American Heritage Organization www.SikhAmerican.org

Mr. Saini headed the committee to publish Punjabi community resource directory "Punjabi Pages" in 1999 and 2001. He was honored with community service award by Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago in 1997 and "Chitrahar TV" in 2001. A well known Punjabi performing artist, Mr. Saini also teaches Punjabi folk dance “Bhangra” to the next generation. He has organized various Punjabi Cultural, Sikh American and Asian American mainstream events in Chicago for the last 17 years.

Currently, Mr. Saini is a construction consulting engineer with Teng and Associates, Inc. of Chicago at LaGrange Rd. reconstruction project.
