PCS NIGHT and Annual International Bhangra Competition News Release

--"Rytham Boyz" Bhangra Team from Toronto Canada Wins "4th P.C.S. International Bhangra Competition" and
--"Safri Boyz Concert" at Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago's "PCS Night 2005" a Double Delight Mega
--New P.C.S. Board installed, Onkar Singh Sangha hands over baton to Jasbir Singh Palia as President

--Chicago: Punjabis, non-Punjabis and locals had a treat of their lifetime at "PCS Night 2005" Dinner and Dance Banquet on Saturday, November 19, 2005, at the prestigious Ballroom of Waterford Banquets and Convention Center, Elmhurst Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The event including an International Bhangra Dance Competition and Safri Boyz Concert was organized by Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago. www.PCSChicago.org

Fourth Annual PCS Chicago International Bhangra Competition.

"Rhytham Boyz" Bhangra dance team from Toronto, Canada won the first place, "Nachdi Jawani" team from Toronto Canada was second, whereas LBC (Livingston Bhangra Club) California won the 3rd place at this "4th Annual PCS International Bhangra Competition." Ten Bhangra teams from Toronto Canada, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington DC, Michigan and Illinois competed for the honors and $3500 first, $1800 second and $1200 third prizes. The other competing teams were "Balle Bhangra" University of Chicago; "Rooh Punjab Di" Chicago; "Panj Dariyan Di Shaan" Michigan; "Virginia Tech Bhangra" Virginia; "Nachdiyan Prandiyan" Washington DC; "Duke Dhamaka" Duke University North Carolina; "G.T.A. Bhangra" Canada. Majority of the college teams participants were non-Punjabis including many local Americans.
 

Prizes were donated by Dr. Bhupinder Singh Saini and family from Milwaukee, WI., Sandhu family of Sandhu Petroleum from Illinois, Varinder Singh Sahi from Indianapolis and Inderjit Singh Sohi from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Also the world famous Bhangra singer "Balwinder Safri" a mega-star vocalist and his award winning group of musicians from U.K. "Safri Boyz" performed live in concert and thrilled the jubilant audience by his smash hit bhangra songs pass midnight like “Chan Mere Makhna”, “Pao Bhangre Karo dil raaji”, “Rahe Rahe jaan valiye” “Pagh Te Sitare” and various “Boliyan”.

Dr. & Mrs. Bhupinder Singh Saini founder and chairman of Advanced Pain Management are the chief guests and Grand sponsors of the PCS Night.

" I am sure our team will take P.C.S. to still a higher level of community service in coming years," said Jasbir Singh Palia the newly appointed president of P.C.S. Chicago.
 

"I am honored to be the chairman of P.C.S. Chicago, and do my best to support all the good works that P.C.S. is doing for our community," said Dr.
Navdeep Kaur Sandhu the new P.C.S. chairperson for 2005-06.

"I have never seen such an impressive Punjabi program, at such a prestigious venue," said Kehar Singh Soodan C.E.O. of Soodan and Associates.
 

"The teams were judged on the traditional form, authenticity, costumes, and creativity in their performance," said Rajinder Singh Mago, the International Bhangra competition coordinator.


Apparently delighted Honorable Peter Roskam and Dan Rutherford the State Senators from Illinois relished the event and also addressed the audience congratulating the P.C.S. organizers. “The Bhangra performances were so energetic and vibrant that I got exhausted even by watching them” said Honorable Peter Reskam.

The new 2005-2006 P.C.S. board was also introduced with Jasbir Singh Palia as president along with Dr. Navdeep Kaur Sandhu, as honorary chairperson, and Bhinder S. Pamma Vice President, Amarjeet Kaur Atwal-Executive Secretary, Kulwant Singh Lall-Finance Secretary, Ronny Kular-Sports Director, Baljeet Kaur Sangha-Youth Director, Harbir Singh Virk-Inter Community Coordinator.

 

PCS Board of Governors (PCS Founding members & past presidents) Thakar S. Basati, Rajinder S. Mago, Manjit S. Gill, Sukhmel S. Atwal, Mohinderjit S. Saini, Bhagwant S. Sandhu, Sunny S. Kular and PCS Board of Advisors (PCS Ex-Presidents) Harwinder Paul S. Lail and Onkar Singh Sangha helped organize this mega event.

 

In addition various PCS coordinators and volunteers helped are Amarpal S. Matharu, Jaswinder S. Sapal, Vandana Jhingan, Yadwinder S. Grewal, Kevindeep S. Delicious Indian culinary cuisine was catered by India Garden Restaurants. Travel arrangements were made by Travel King through "Air India". Dance lovers packed the dance floor throughout the show dancing to the live dhol music pass midnight.


Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago (P.C.S.) is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization promoting education, good citizenship, community development, civic commitment and involvement, and preserving Punjabi Culture, language, sports and performing arts among its community members and also mainstream Americans in the Midwest and beyond. PCS caters to this need both by directly organizing events that bring community members together from all over the Midwest region and by facilitating participation of its community members in mainstream activities.

Other P.C.S. programs include:  "Rangla Punjab 2006," scheduled for April 8, 2006 at Gateway Theater in Chicago and "Punjabi Sports Festival 2006," planned for the summer of 2006. “Scholarships” for Punjabi youth will be awarded at the "Graduation Night 2006".
