CLASS OF 2004 GRADUATES HONORED BY PUNJABI CULTURAL SOCIETY OF
CHICAGO P.C.S. Scholarship award winners also announced
CHICAGO: In an attempt to inspire immigrant youth, the Punjabi Cultural
Society of Chicago (PCS) held its fourth annual "Punjabi Youth Graduation
Night," to honor and fete the graduating class of Punjabi youth.
This event was held on Sunday, June 13, 2004, at ViceRoy of India Banquet
Hall, in Lombard, IL, with 400 cheering families in attendance. The focus
was on inspiring the new generation featuring music, dance, food and
keynote addresses. The night honored the class of 2004, both high school
and college graduates, awarded two scholarships, and recognized the
participants, organizers and sponsors of "Rangla Punjab 2004" Vaisakhi
program held in last April.
The reception included delectable culinary delights prepared by Viceroy of
India, global beats by Sunshine DJ, an open dance floor, and celebrated
both the achievements of the youth and their parents.
"The purpose of this program is to encourage our community youth towards
higher education. Here they can get to know each other for future
networking, form support groups, or simply socialize," said the PCS
president Dr. Harjinder Singh Khaira.
Kehar Singh Soodan, C.E.O. of Soodan and Associates, a construction
consulting engineering firm, Harinder Singh, President of M.I.T.S. Inc. a
computer software consulting and training academy were the keynote
speakers. Mrs. Sonia Singh was a senior student speaker, who addressed her
peers with inspirational thoughts along with "I've been there" personal
moments. Dr. Rachhpal Singh Bajwa, a successful veterinarian, was the
chief guest, who presented the certificates to the graduates. His speech
was full of encouragement and words of wisdom for the youth with anecdotes
from his personal life experiences for a road map to success in the real
world.
"What you sow, so shall you reap, applies to career building too," said
Kehar Singh Soodan, "if you become a good human being, you have
accomplished your purpose," he added.
"Use your latent talents which mostly remain un-utilized, and position
yourself ahead of the crowds by taking advantage of the abundance of
resources available and skills acquired through education here in the
U.S.," said Harinder Singh of M.I.T.S. Inc.
"Imagine your self on the last day of your stay on this planet when you
are resting in peace in that box, whatever you want someone to say in your
eulogy, that's what you endeavor to become," said Rajinder Singh Mago,
former president of P.C.S.
"We have to stand behind our youth one hundred percent to support and
encourage them in their quest for knowledge on road to success, for they
are our future," said Dr. Rachhpal Singh Bajwa.
Navneet Kaur, a Bartlett High School graduate, won this year's $1000.
P.C.S. High School Senior's Scholarship for her outstanding academic
achievements. Amrit Kaur Gill M.D. won the $500. college student's
scholarship award for her achievements and excellent volunteer services
towards PCS events.
The graduation night, scholarships, and awards were sponsored by M.I.T.S.
Inc.; Dr. Gurbachan Singh Kapoor; Dr. Robert Singh; Dr. Surjit Singh
Patheja, Western Union; Dr. Sandeep Khosla; Sarang Construction and
ViceRoy of India Banquets. The award trophies were sponsored by Western
Union.
Participants and performing artists of the "Rangla Punjab
<../../rp/index.htm 2004" cultural program were also given awards
for
their participation, and dedication to promote Punjabi culture and
performing arts in Chicago area. The awards were presented by the
community elders and prominent guests.

P.C.S. NIGHT 2004: JAZZY BAINS SHOW AND INTERNATIONAL BHANGRA COMPETITION,
is slated to be on November 20, 2004.
The Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago is a not-for-profit community
organization devoted to promoting Punjabi culture, language, performing
arts, healthy life style, sports, and education in the metropolitan
Chicago area.
