Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago joins
"Passport to the World"
June 7, 2001
PCS will organize a bus trip to the Children's Museum leaving Palatine
Gurudwara Sahib at 4:00pm on June 7th for Navy Pier to join the 6:00pm
opening festivities including World famous Punjabi Folk Dance "Bhangra"
at Chicago Children's
Museum
Interested individuals shall give there names to PCS. PCS also
have display of Punjabi exhibits and SAHO has "Sikh
exhibits" at Children's Museum throughout the month of May and
June.

Classical Indian Dance Performance May 3, 6:30 p.m.
Join us as we begin two months of presentations by the South Asia
Passport to
the World Program. Enjoy an enchanting performance of classical Indian
dances
presented by Kalapriya Dance Company.
South Indian Dance/Storytelling Workshop
May 5, 1pm
Explore stories and myths through the expressive gestures of South
Indian
classical dance, presented by Veena Iyer and Ahalya Satkunaratnam.
Rangoli
May 6, 1-3pm
Explore designs of Rangoli, a traditional art of decorating courtyards
and
walls of Indian homes with Bharati Dev.
South Asian Marketplace
May 27 & June 3, 1-4pm
Come by to experience the sights and smells of a traditional South
Asian
marketplace.
Garba Raas May 20, 3 pm
See a traditional folk dance from Gujarat, India, led by
Northwestern
University students Shivani Patel and Ankur Shah.
Bengali Tales, June 2, 3pm
Hear traditional stories from Bengal, India, presented by
Basanti Banerji and
Devipriya Roy.
Magic Show June 3, 2pm
Shreeyash Palshikar will dazzle you with his traditional magic show.

Enjoy a traditional classical South India dance program presented by
Natya
Dance Theater.
South Asian Passport Festival Days
June 7, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Kick-off South Asian Passport Festival Days by joining our Bharat
(procession) with a Chenda troupe (traditional drummers from Kerala of
South
West India) beginning at 6:00 in Navy Pier and move into Chicago
Children's
Museum's Great Hall for a greeting followed by a dance presentation of
Bhangra by Punjabi Cultural Society of Chicago www.PCSChicago.org at
6:30p.m.
In addition, enjoy a
Mehendi
workshop, workshops in Artabounds with a South
Asian artist-in-residence, and our Family Learning Stations with a
South
Asian focus.
South Asian Passport Festival Days June 9, 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Sanghani, a
traditional magic show by Shreeyash Palshikar
, and a Youth Forum with young
adults from the South Asian community discussing their experiences as
first
and second generation South Asians in Chicago and a classical South
India
dance program presented by Natya Dance Theater. Ongoing activities
include a
South Asian Marketplace, Family Learning Stations, and a South Asian
artist-in-residence in Artabounds.
June 10, 1 to 5 p.m.Enjoy another fun-filled day of South
Asian culture!
See traditional classical music presented by cellist Nancy Lesh, a
traditional Kathak dance by performers from the Anila Sinha
Foundation, a
Sitar performance by Sundanda, a Yoga demonstration/workshop led by
Meera, in
addition to the South Asian Marketplace, Family Learning Stations, and
a
South Asian artist-in-residence in Artabounds.
